What is Food Licence Registration?

Every food business operator involved in the manufacturing, processing, storage distribution and sale of food products must compulsorily obtain FSSAI Registration or License. It is a 14-digit registration or a license number which is printed on all the food packages.

What are the three types of food license?

There are three types of license based on annual turnover: 1. Basic Registration - If the annual turnover of the business is less than 12 lakhs then the food business operator shall get registered with Registration Form A. 2. State Licence - If the annual turnover of the business is between 12 to 20 crores then the food business operator shall apply for State license Form B 3. Central Licence - If the annual turnover of the business is above 20 crores, then the food business operator shall apply for Central License Form B.

Every FBO is required to obtain an FSSAI Food License under the Food Safety and Security Act of 2006. If the FBO is small or insignificant, it merely has to register with the FSSAI.

What are the consequences of the non-renewal of the FASSAI License?

If you forget to renew your food licence within the given validity period, you will be charged a penalty of Rs. 100 each day, after which your licence will be cancelled and you will have to apply for a new one.

What is the FSSAI License requirement to run a food business in more than one state with the same name of the company or organization?

Food Business Operators (FBOs) operating in two or more states must apply for a separate Central License for their registered office or headquarters. The concerned Central or State licencing body must issue a separate licence or registration for each unit or premise based on their specific capacity or turnover.
